Born in New York, Adam Bryanbaum Wiltzie grew up fixated on a career in professional tennis, and was brought up under the wings of 1963 Wimbledon champion Chuck McKinley. After a tragic knee injury ended his tennis, Wiltzie redirected his energies towards music.

Best known for his work as founder of ambient classical projects such as  and Aix Em Klemm, Wiltzie has also collaborated with and worked as a live sound engineer for other artists, including The Flaming Lips and Sparklehorse.

As a composer, Wiltzie has written the original scores multiple projects including , SaleroThe Yellow BirdsIris, and Whitney, the estate approved documentary about the life of the late Whitney Houston, directed by Kevin Macdonald. He co-founded A Winged Victory for the Sullen with composer and pianist Dustin O’Halloran, they have released albums on Erased Tapes and  on Ninja Tune, written the music for Wayne McGregor’s ballet Atomos, performed at the BBC Proms at Royal Albert Hall in 2015 and collaborated on the multi-media theatrical production  at Manchester International Festival in 2019 the soundtrack of which was released in 2021.

Adam's solo album Eleven Fugues For Sodium Pentothal was released on Kranky in 2024.
